La Z1000R se puede decir que es la madre de la actual ZRX1200R,esta moto es de cuando los hombres eran hombres,de cuando empezaron a correr las primeras superbikes en la AMA,motos sin carenado,donde los pilotos luchaban entre ellos y con sus maquinas de gran potencia pero de chasis de "alambre".
Cuando Fred Merkel y Freddie Spencer,dominaban el campeonato al final de la temporada apareció la nueva Z1000R pilotada por Eddie Lawson,fueron campeones en el 81 y 82.
