"The motorcycle details are.
BMW R80/7
Engine 1978
Frame and forks 1981
The following are what I have done to it.
Stripped the motorcycle down to the frame. Cut all parts of the frame off that were not needed. ( i.e. the battery box - plastic covers - seat hinges etc ) Powder coated the frame, subframe, swing arm, side stand and top yoke in satin black.
Re plated in dull chrome most bolts or ordered new stainless nuts and bolts.
Changed the brake from under the tank master cylinder to a new handlebar unit. 2 new stainless discs and a second hand brembo caliper with new internals.
Hand cleaned all the alloy engine parts and front forks. New fork stanchions
Painted the engine with black / grey heat resistant paint
New exhausts
Graphite impregnated exhaust wrap for the header pipes
New odyssey battery and custom made battery box mounted in place of the air box
K&N filters
Alloy rear mudguard cut to fit
Front mudguard cut to new shape and size and sprayed matt black
New indicators and rear break light [ shin yo shark nose LED ] Hand fabricated rear break light holder
New scrambler seat
New handle bar and grips
Stripped and sanded tank. Hand sanded and clear lacquered
New speedo and fabricated unit to join it to the old BMW cable.
Many more little details that had to go into getting it all to work.
I wanted to change the R80 from what I thought could be seen as a rather dull machine to a thing of old school rebellion. I wanted a machine that could be ridden every day and one that looks as cool as any custom. I think this BMW does just that. I also wanted to challenge myself as I have never done anything like this before I'm 45 so this could be my "midlife crisis" project. I think I have done a great job on this motorcycle. I have a commission to customize a R80 to look like mine and have started on a new lux R80 custom which should be ready next year".-Adam.
